■ SAIGON, VIETNAM: Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam’s most populous city, rivals that of other Asian countries for sheer size and have also started to catch up in terms of tourism arrivals. 11 million foreigners visited the country during the first 11 months of 2017.
Wandering around downtown Ho Chi Minh though, and especially whilst hanging out in the city’s Walking Street, or the traditional backpackers area if you will. I can’t help but wonder where they all are?
In similar Walking Streets be it in Thailand or the Philipines you’re bound to run into more foreigners than locals. That is far from the case though in Saigon. And in all honesty, that doesn’t bother me one bit.
It’s infinitely better to be one of a few as opposed to one of too many. I therefore thoroughly enjoyed this night out in Saigon, chatting with locals and wandering around taking in the sights and sounds.
