■ How can YOU grow a successful YouTube channel? Here are 10 points to consider for those who wish to give running their own channel a serious go. As I watched this video before uploading it (completely un-edited as usual with my monologues) I realized not every point came across as clearly as I wanted it to. So here are some extra notes one a couple of them that hopefully drives the point home:
■ 1. On Big Brother and reality TV shows, what I was trying to say was that every single person, regardless of how big an idiot or unlikable they came across as to the vast majority of people, still come out from those shows with a following. Somebody somewhere will always feel for you, even if you identify as a pot plant and strive to live your life as one. You will grow a following if you simply hang in there long enough to reach / create the world’s first pot plant community.
The point is thus that there really is a community/niche out there waiting to be spawned by you, your persona, your interests, your skills or something that you produce, say or create.
Traditional media used to be the gate-keepers deciding who was allowed to become a public persona or not. YouTube allows you to bypass them.
■ 9. On specializing, often people criticize you for things you’ve neither tried to become good at or something which is completely out of your control. Like you height or your pronunciation of language you’ve never tried to learn. Some then try to compensate, cover up or refrain from doing certain things that will lead to more criticism on whatever it is that people are bullying them for. Don’t! If you’re good at something but suck in other things, keep being horrible at the activities you simply don’t master and keep pruning what you’re good at until you become GREAT!
■ 10. On political correctness my point was merely that in a world where 99% of people are competing in being holier than thou, whether they’re on Youtube or TV, why not simply be that 1% who try to keep it real and don’t sugar coat things? Even if you try to cater to everyone and strive your utmost to never say anything wrong, you will still be hated by many. So why not simply actually BE YOURSELF and stop contributing to making this world an even faker place?
