THIS IS FASCINATING!
Before I came to Yemen, I had NO IDEA that I would be seeing the most incredible desert landscapes of canyons and valleys, along with the most unique indigenous cultures who live inside them!
Welcome to Wadi Dawan in the Hadramaut Governorate (region) of Yemen. This place is made up of 32 small villages, entirely made from mud bricks! Some of the settlements, like Shibam, are over 600 years old which has awarded them to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Shibam is actually considered as the “world’s first skyscraper city” and best example of urban planning based on vertical construction.
I felt 100% safe as I wandered around these villages, meeting people and seeing their humble way of living. I was lucky enough to randomly join a wedding celebration as well!
I bet this isn’t what you thought Yemen was like. For me at least, it sure wasn’t. And this is absolutely amazing!
